Getting to Kashmir from Gurugram

By Air — Two Airports Worth Comparing

Gurugram doesn't have its own airport, but it sits close enough to two of them that comparing fares before booking is worth the extra five minutes. Delhi's IGI Airport is the default for most of the city — roughly 27–30 km away via NH48 and the Delhi–Gurugram Expressway, which usually works out to 40–60 minutes if you're leaving from Cyber City, DLF or Golf Course Road outside peak hours, though Iffco Chowk and NH48 congestion can stretch that meaningfully during rush hour. From there, non-stop flights to Srinagar run on IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air, with several departures spread across the day and a non-stop flight time of about 1 hr 10 min to 1 hr 30 min.

The newer option is Noida International Airport (IATA: DXN) at Jewar, which opened for commercial service in mid-2026 with IndiGo running the first non-stop Jewar–Srinagar flights — a sector of roughly 700 km, taking about 1 hr 25 min to 1 hr 35 min in the air. For Gurugram, Jewar is the farther drive on paper — about 78–85 km via Sohna Road onto the KMP Expressway and then the Yamuna Expressway — but that route largely avoids central Delhi traffic, so the drive tends to land around 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 45 min door to door, which can end up comparable to a bad-traffic run to IGI. It's usually the better call for travellers based in Sohna, Manesar or the southern parts of the city; those closer to Cyber City or NH8 will typically still find IGI quicker.

By Rail — Via New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin

Gurgaon Railway Station exists, but it sits on the Delhi–Rewari–Alwar suburban and long-distance line — useful for Rajasthan-bound trains, not for a direct run into Jammu & Kashmir. For this trip, you'll need to head into Delhi first, to New Delhi Railway Station or Hazrat Nizamuddin, both roughly 30–35 km from central Gurugram. By road that's typically 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic and time of day; the Delhi Metro Yellow Line (from Huda City Centre/Millennium City Centre through to Delhi stations, with a change) is a reasonable fallback if you'd rather skip driving into Delhi altogether.

Best Places to Visit on a Kashmir Trip from Gurugram

• Srinagar and Dal Lake: This is Day 1 and Day 6 of our standard itinerary — arrival and your Dal Lake houseboat night both come included as standard. Kashmir's summer capital sits at about 1,585 m and centres on Dal Lake, where a houseboat night and a sunset Shikara ride tend to be the two things travellers remember most. Round it out with the Mughal Gardens — Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh — and the 14th-century Jama Masjid in the old city. With Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR) now reachable non-stop from both IGI and Jewar, Srinagar is an easy single-flight entry point rather than a multi-leg journey from Gurugram. Best visited April to October.
• Gulmarg: About 56 km from Srinagar at 2,650 m, Gulmarg — "Meadow of Flowers" — is home to one of the world's highest cable car systems, climbing to Apharwat Peak at close to 3,980 m. This is Day 3 of our standard itinerary — the Gondola Phase 1 ride is included in every package tier. Winter (December–February) turns it into India's premier ski destination, while summer brings one of the highest green golf courses anywhere. Pack proper warm layers regardless of season, since the upper station runs noticeably colder than the base.
• Pahalgam: Sitting on the Lidder River about 90 km from Srinagar at 2,130 m, Pahalgam — "Valley of Shepherds" — has long served as the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra. It opens onto Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari, and its pony trails and pine-forest walks make it one of the more relaxed stops on a Kashmir circuit. Best April to June and September to November. This is Day 4 and Day 5 of our standard itinerary, included in every package tier we offer.
• Sonmarg: This is Day 7 of our standard itinerary — included in every 6N/7D package and above. Around 80 km from Srinagar at roughly 2,800 m, Sonmarg — the "Meadow of Gold" — marks the start of the road toward Ladakh over Zoji La. Its main draw, Thajiwas Glacier, is a short pony ride or walk from the main road. The route generally stays open only from May to September before heavy snow shuts it down, which is why most well-built Kashmir packages from Gurugram schedule it as a single day trip.
• Betaab Valley: Just 15 km from Pahalgam, Betaab Valley takes its name from the 1983 Bollywood film shot there. Covered as part of the Day 4 drive in our standard itinerary — no separate booking needed. Thick pine cover and the Lidder River running through it make for an easy, photogenic stop with a modest entry fee, usually paired with Aru Valley and Chandanwari in one day.
• Yusmarg: About 47 km from Srinagar in the Pir Panjal range, Yusmarg sits at roughly 2,400 m and draws a fraction of Gulmarg's or Pahalgam's crowds. Rolling meadows, the Doodh Ganga River and pony trails toward Tosa Maidan make it a good half- or full-day add-on for anyone after a quieter pace — a common reason it shows up in Kashmir packages built for Gurugram travellers. Not on our standard route, but easy to add to any package tier — just ask when you enquire.
• Doodhpathri: Available as an offbeat add-on, especially popular with our 7N/8D and luxury-tier travellers. In Budgam district, roughly 42 km from Srinagar, Doodhpathri ("Valley of Milk") sits around 2,730 m and takes its name from the milky-white streams flowing over its rocks. It's one of the least commercial meadows in the valley — good territory for camping, quiet walks and picnics away from the main circuit.
• Aru Valley: Twelve kilometres from Pahalgam at about 2,414 m, Aru Valley is the starting point for treks to the Kolahoi Glacier and the Tarsar-Marsar lakes, and its meadows also suit shorter horse rides and day hikes. Add it as an extra day to any package of 6N/7D or longer — tell us when you enquire. A typical Kashmir trip from Gurugram runs 6–8 days across Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg, so Aru works best as a bonus day if your schedule allows — or it can already be built into a ready-made package if you'd rather not plan flights, hotels and local transport yourself.

Things to Do on a Kashmir Tour from Gurugram

• Shikara Ride and a Houseboat Stay: An evening Shikara ride on Dal Lake is close to mandatory on any Kashmir trip, drifting past floating gardens and the lake's floating market for roughly ₹600–₹1,200 depending on duration and season. Combine it with at least one night on a Dal or Nigeen Lake houseboat — options range from simple to deluxe, usually with home-cooked Kashmiri meals thrown in. Head out between 6 and 8 AM if you want to catch the floating market at its busiest. The houseboat night and a Shikara ride are both standard inclusions in every package we offer.
• Ride the Gulmarg Gondola: Phase 1 is already built into every package tier we offer; Phase 2 can be added on request. One of the highest cable car systems on earth, it runs from Gulmarg (2,650 m) to Kongdoori on Phase 1 and continues to Apharwat Peak (Phase 2, near 3,980 m) beyond that. As of 2026, Phase 1 tickets cost roughly ₹740–₹810 and Phase 2 roughly ₹900–₹1,100 per person, both subject to seasonal pricing and possible weather closures. On a clear day, the top station opens up views toward the Nanga Parbat range. Most Kashmir packages out of Gurugram include at least the Phase 1 ride as standard.
• Trek Pahalgam, Aru Valley and Betaab Valley: Pahalgam is the trekking hub of the region, with short, clearly marked trails to Aru Valley (12 km) and Betaab Valley (15 km) — both doable in a single day with a guide or pony. Guided sightseeing to these valleys is included in every package; multi-day treks can be arranged as an add-on. More seasoned trekkers can push on from Aru toward the Tarsar-Marsar lakes and the base of Kolahoi Glacier, best attempted June through September.
• River Rafting on the Lidder: The Lidder River at Pahalgam offers grade I–II rapids — gentle enough for beginners and families. Sessions run about 20–30 minutes and cost roughly ₹500–₹800 per person, best done April through September when water levels are more consistent. Good for family itineraries — just confirm safety gear and a trained guide are included when you compare quotes. Available as an optional add-on with any of our Pahalgam-inclusive packages.
• Ski or Snowboard in Gulmarg: Ask us to add ski or snowboard rental into your winter package — it isn't included by default. From December to February, Gulmarg becomes one of the country's top winter-sports spots. Beginner slopes sit near the base, while confident skiers head up via the Gondola for longer runs. Equipment rental and instructor fees generally cost ₹1,500–₹3,000 a day, and this stretch of the trip is often the highlight of honeymoon itineraries booked out of Gurugram.
• Shop for Pashmina and Saffron: Srinagar's Lal Chowk and the Polo View Market area are the go-to spots for genuine Pashmina shawls, hand-knotted carpets, walnut wood carvings and Kashmiri saffron. • Walk the Mughal Gardens: Srinagar's terraced, fountain-lined Mughal-era gardens — Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh and Chashme Shahi — date back to the 17th century along Dal Lake's edge. They're at their best in spring (April–May) during tulip season and again in autumn when the chinar trees turn red and gold. Entry runs a modest ₹24–₹30 per garden. • Camp Under the Stars in Sonmarg or Doodhpathri: Available as an add-on for travellers extending beyond our standard 6N/7D package. For a slower day, camping near Sonmarg's Thajiwas Glacier or out in Doodhpathri's meadows offers clear night skies and a break from the main sightseeing route. Basic tented setups run May through September, often with bonfire evenings — a nice way to wind down a longer trip before heading back to Srinagar for your flight home.
