Every month, Malaysian families, couples, and small groups write to us asking the same set of questions. How cold does it really get. Is the food halal. How many days do we actually need. This guide answers those questions in order, the way I would if you sat across from me in our Srinagar office.
Our Kashmir Tour Packages from Malaysia are planned by people who actually live here, not by overseas agencies or generic booking platforms. I started guiding tourists in Kashmir in 2012, long before our company existed in its current form, and over the years I've watched the Malaysia to Kashmir travel market grow steadily. Direct e-Visa access has made planning much easier, while word has spread among Malaysian Muslim travellers that Kashmir offers not only breathtaking Himalayan scenery but also a culture, food, and hospitality that feel welcoming and familiar. Because we live in Kashmir, every itinerary is built using real local knowledge, practical experience, and up-to-date information to help you enjoy a smoother and more authentic journey.
This is not a brochure. A Kashmir holiday from Malaysia has real logistics: a long flight with at least one transit, a visa application that takes a few days, and a destination where weather can change your plans with almost no warning. I'll cover all of it, including the parts that don't always make it into glossy packages, like why some roads close in winter, why gondola queues can eat two hours of your morning, and why I never recommend booking only four nights.
By the end of this guide you should know which season fits your travel dates, which package fits your group, what a realistic budget looks like in MYR, and what to actually pack. If you still have questions after reading, that's what our team is for.
The single biggest reason Malaysian travellers choose Kashmir over other mountain destinations is comfort, not just scenery. Kashmir's population is overwhelmingly Muslim, mosques are part of daily life in every town we visit, and halal food is not a special request here, it's simply how the kitchens already cook. You won't need to hunt for a halal-certified restaurant the way you might in parts of Europe or East Asia.
Climate is the second draw. Malaysian summers sit around 30 to 33 degrees most days. Kashmir's summer, by contrast, runs between about 15 and 28 degrees in Srinagar, and considerably cooler once you're up in Gulmarg or Sonamarg. For many of our Malaysian clients, this is the first time they've worn a light jacket outdoors in months, and that alone makes the trip memorable.
Winter brings real snow, which is a genuine novelty for most Malaysian travellers who have never touched it. Gulmarg in January and February gets heavy snowfall, and we regularly see grown adults building their first snowman at almost forty years old. It's a good honest reason to visit, and I'd rather say that plainly than dress it up.
Families appreciate that Kashmir is slow-paced compared to a city break. There's no pressure to rush between attractions, and houseboat stays on Dal Lake give children something genuinely different from a hotel room. Honeymoon couples are drawn to the combination of privacy, scenery, and the houseboat experience, which doesn't really have an equivalent back home.
Finally, there's culture and shopping. Pashmina shawls, saffron, and hand-carved walnut wood are not souvenirs you'll find easily elsewhere, and the Mughal Gardens around Srinagar give the trip a historical layer beyond just landscape. Taken together, this is why Kashmir tourism packages from Malaysia have grown steadily rather than being a passing trend.
We are based permanently in Srinagar, and that matters more than it sounds. When a road closes because of an overnight landslide near Sonamarg, or Gulmarg gets an unexpected dump of snow that shuts the gondola for a few hours, we find out the same morning, often from our own drivers, and we adjust your itinerary on the spot rather than you finding out when you arrive.
Our drivers know these mountain roads in a way that only comes from doing the drive repeatedly across many seasons. Several of our team have over 12 years behind the wheel on these specific routes, which means they know which stretches need extra time after rain, and which viewpoints are worth a five-minute stop that most first-time drivers would skip past.
We work mainly with properties we've placed clients in repeatedly, including the Taj Dal View and The Lalit Grand Palace for travellers wanting a 5-star stay, alongside a range of solid 3 and 4-star hotels and traditional houseboats for groups with a different budget. We don't push one property because of a commission arrangement, we recommend based on what fits your group size and budget.
Every Kashmir tour package from Malaysia we build is genuinely customizable. If you want an extra day in Pahalgam and one less in Sonamarg, or you'd prefer a private vehicle over a shared group bus, we'll rework the plan rather than insisting on a fixed template. That flexibility, combined with being reachable on WhatsApp throughout your trip, is the core of what we offer. Beyond Kashmir, we also offer Kashmir honeymoon packages and Kashmir family tour packages — fully tailored for Malaysian travellers. Combined tours with Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur (Golden Triangle) are also available. Chat with us on WhatsApp or call +91 9018186721 for a free quote today.

Route: Kuala Lumpur → Delhi or Mumbai → Srinagar → Gulmarg → Pahalgam → Sonamarg → Srinagar → Kuala Lumpur
Most flights from Kuala Lumpur land in Srinagar by early afternoon after a transit in Delhi or Mumbai. Our driver meets you at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport with a name board, and the transfer to your houseboat or hotel on Dal Lake takes 20 to 30 minutes. We keep day one deliberately light after a 13 to 16 hour journey. By evening, we arrange a Shikara ride on Dal Lake timed about 45 minutes before sunset, followed by a halal dinner near the lake.
Morning starts around 9am with Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, the two best-maintained Mughal Gardens. Afternoon covers Hazratbal Shrine and, traffic permitting, the old city around Jamia Masjid, followed by a first look at Lal Chowk for pashmina and saffron shopping. We build in time for Maghrib prayer before dinner.
We leave Srinagar by 8am, since gondola queues by 11am in peak season can run over an hour. The Gulmarg Gondola runs in two phases up to Kongdori and then Apharwat Peak, with Phase 2 tickets booked in advance wherever possible. Afternoon activities depend on season, horse riding in summer, sledding and snow play in winter. We head back toward Srinagar by 5pm to avoid dusk traffic.
About a 3 hour drive, passing through saffron fields worth a short photo stop in October. We visit Betaab Valley in the late morning, then Aru Valley after lunch since it tends to be quieter then. Horse riding along the Lidder River is optional and priced separately. Evening dinner often features fresh trout, a genuine local specialty.
Around 2.5 hours from Srinagar, following the Sindh River, one of the more scenic drives of the week. We leave by 8am for better light at Thajiwas Glacier, reached by a short pony ride or walk. This stop can close entirely after heavy snowfall in winter, so December through February it's treated as weather-dependent rather than a guarantee. Afternoon is unstructured time around the meadows.
This day is flexible. Some groups add a half-day trip to Doodhpathri, a quieter valley about 1.5 hours from Srinagar that sees far fewer tour buses than Gulmarg or Pahalgam. Others keep day six free for shopping, since by now you've compared prices at a few shops. Evening is a farewell dinner, usually with a fuller Wazwan spread.
A relaxed morning, with airport transfer timed around 3 hours before your flight given Srinagar airport's security procedures. Our driver handles the transfer and helps with check-in formalities where needed.
The summer capital, built around Dal Lake. Best visited April through October, though pleasant even in winter if you don't mind cold mornings. Activities centre on Shikara rides, Mughal Gardens, and the old city. The gardens are at their best for photography in the first hour after opening, before the light flattens out and crowds build.
A genuine highlight for most groups, sitting at 2,650 metres. Best for snow December through February, and for meadows and horse riding May through August. The gondola is the main draw, but fog can close Phase 2 with no notice, so don't build your whole day's plan around reaching the top.
Gentler and greener than Gulmarg, good for travellers who find high altitude uncomfortable. Best May through September. Betaab Valley and Aru Valley are both worth visiting, though Aru requires a bit more driving on a rougher road, which can be uncomfortable for elderly travellers.
Higher altitude, more dramatic scenery, centred on Thajiwas Glacier. Best May through September, since the Zojila Pass road beyond it closes for winter. Pony rides to the glacier are optional, and it's worth agreeing a price with the handler before starting, not after.
A quieter alternative most large tour operators skip entirely. Best June through August. Genuinely peaceful, with far fewer vendors and tour buses than the main circuit.
Less developed than Doodhpathri even, reachable in about an hour from Srinagar. We add this only for groups with extra time, since infrastructure here is more basic and not every traveller wants that.
Not just a stop but the backbone of most itineraries, since houseboat stays happen here. Sunrise Shikara rides are quieter and better lit than sunset ones, though sunset is more convenient for groups who don't want an early wake-up.
Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh are the two worth prioritising if time is limited. Best for tulips specifically in late March to mid-April, otherwise pleasant April through October.
| Month | Weather | Crowds | Relative Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| March | Cool, 5–18°C | Low | Lower | Tulip season begins late March |
| April | Mild, 8–22°C | Moderate | Moderate | Peak tulip viewing |
| May | Warm, 12–25°C | High | Higher | Gardens in full bloom |
| June | Warm, 15–28°C | High | Higher | Good for all activities |
| July | Warm, 15–28°C | High | Higher | Some rain possible |
| August | Warm, 14–26°C | Moderate–High | Higher | Good general month |
| September | Mild, 10–22°C | Moderate | Moderate | Clear skies, good photography |
| October | Cool, 5–18°C | Low–Moderate | Moderate | Saffron harvest, autumn colour |
| November | Cold, 0–12°C | Low | Lower | Some roads start closing |
| December | Cold, -5–8°C | Low | Lower | Early snow possible |
| January | Very cold, -8–5°C | Low | Lower | Peak Gulmarg snow |
| February | Very cold, -5–8°C | Low | Lower | Good skiing, some closures |
There's no single best month, only a best month for what you want. April and May give you tulips and mild weather, but also higher hotel prices and busier gardens. September and October are quieter and good value, with less reliable snow if that's specifically what you're after. December through February is the only real window for serious snow, but expect some attractions to close without notice and pack accordingly.
There's no direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Srinagar, so every Malaysia to Kashmir flight involves at least one transit. The most common routing is via Delhi, typically Air India or IndiGo for the domestic leg, with total travel time around 10 to 13 hours including the layover. Routing via Mumbai with AirAsia or Malindo on the first leg is a reasonable budget alternative, usually adding a couple of hours overall.
A Dubai transit with Emirates is the more comfortable option if you'd rather break the journey with a longer layover, though total travel time stretches to 14 to 18 hours. None of these is dramatically better than the others, the choice mostly comes down to your budget and how much layover time you're comfortable with.
Booking advice from experience: book at least 2 to 3 months ahead for travel in April, May, September, and October specifically, since these months see the most demand from both Malaysian and other international travellers. Baggage allowances vary by carrier and route, so check your specific itinerary rather than assuming a flat allowance across the whole journey. Flight schedules and airport operations can change with little notice, so always confirm your exact routing and dates directly with your airline before booking.
We don't sell flights directly, but we're happy to advise on routing once you share your preferred travel dates, since availability and pricing shift throughout the year.
Malaysian citizens need an Indian e-Visa to enter Kashmir, applied for entirely online at the official government portal, indianvisaonline.gov.in. Here is the process step by step.
Go to the Official Portal Only
Visit indianvisaonline.gov.in directly. Several lookalike third-party sites charge extra fees for "facilitation" that the government doesn't authorize.
Select the e-Visa Option
Choose the e-Visa (Tourist) category. For most Malaysian leisure travellers, the 30-day e-Tourist visa is the right category, though one-year and five-year multiple-entry options also exist.
Fill in the Application Form
Enter personal details, passport information, and travel dates including arrival and departure ports. Double-check every field, since small errors are the most common cause of delays.
Upload Your Documents
A recent passport-style photo (around 2x2 inches, under 1MB, JPEG, white background) and a scanned copy of your passport's photo page in PDF, under 300KB. Passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond travel dates.
Pay the Visa Fee Online
Fees vary by visa duration and time of year, generally USD 25 to 80, payable by credit or debit card, plus a bank processing charge of around 2.5%. Keep your application ID after payment.
Wait for Approval
Processing typically takes 3 to 5 business days, though it can take longer during busy periods. Apply at least 2 to 3 weeks before your travel dates to leave a safety margin.
Download and Carry Your e-Visa
Once approved, your Electronic Travel Authorization arrives by email. Print it and also save a digital copy on your phone, to present alongside your passport at immigration on arrival.
A few practical notes from experience: the tourist e-Visa generally cannot be extended once you're in India, so if you think you might want extra time, apply for a longer-duration visa upfront rather than trying to extend later. We can provide a hotel confirmation letter to support your application if needed, but we are not a visa agency and won't process the application on your behalf. Always verify current fees and document requirements directly on the official portal before applying, since these details are updated periodically.
The e-Visa covers Kashmir's main tourist circuit, Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, with no additional permit needed. A few specific areas, however, require an extra layer of paperwork, and this is something we see first-time travellers overlook.
Gurez Valley, and the Ladakh extension areas including Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, and Turtuk, fall under Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) rules for foreign nationals, Malaysians included. These permits are issued only through a registered tour operator — individual applications submitted directly by travellers are not accepted. We apply for the permit on your behalf as part of booking, using your passport and visa details. Processing typically takes a few days and we'll confirm permit eligibility before you commit to flights for that leg of the trip, since availability is subject to Indian government regulations that can change with little notice. Don't book independent flights or accommodation for Gurez or Ladakh extensions until we've confirmed your permit is actually approved.
Kashmir's accommodation runs from basic 3-star hotels to genuine 5-star luxury, with houseboats as a category of their own. 3-star hotels are clean, centrally heated, and reliable, generally priced around MYR 180 to 280 per room per night within a package. 4-star hotels add better dining and views, typically MYR 280 to 450.
5-star properties in Srinagar, including the Taj Dal View and The Lalit Grand Palace, offer genuine luxury, with the Lalit in particular being a converted Maharaja's palace with a different architectural character entirely from standard hotels. These run from roughly MYR 500 upward per room per night.
Houseboats are worth experiencing at least once even if you're staying in a hotel for the rest of the trip. Standard houseboats are simpler but comfortable, deluxe and luxury categories add private decks and better furnishing. One honest limitation: houseboats have less reliable heating in deep winter than hotels, so for a January or February trip, we usually recommend one houseboat night rather than a full multi-night stay.
Halal food in Kashmir isn't a special accommodation, it's the default. Wazwan, the traditional multi-course Kashmiri feast built around lamb and rice dishes, contains no pork by cultural default, and you won't need to specifically request halal preparation at any restaurant or hotel we work with.
Modest dress is the norm here, so women travelling in hijab will find Kashmiri society comfortable and unremarkable about it.
Wazwan is the dish most travellers ask about, a traditional feast that can include up to 36 courses at formal occasions, though tourist versions are sensibly scaled down. Rogan Josh, a slow-cooked lamb curry, and Yakhni, a yoghurt-based lamb dish, are the two we recommend trying first since they represent the cuisine well without being overwhelming.
Dum Aloo, a spiced potato dish, works well for travellers wanting something lighter or vegetarian. Kashmiri Kahwa, a saffron and cardamom tea, is worth trying at least once, ideally in the afternoon at a lakeside cafe rather than rushed at breakfast. Kashmiri Naan, a slightly sweeter bread than what you'd find in Malaysia, pairs well with most of the above.
We typically arrange a fuller Wazwan dinner toward the end of the trip rather than the first night, since it's a heavier meal best appreciated once you're a little more settled into the food generally.
Pashmina shawls are Kashmir's best-known export, and quality varies enormously. A genuine pashmina is soft but not silky-slippery, and burning a small thread, with the shopkeeper's permission, should smell like burnt hair, not plastic. Prices for genuine pieces start higher than the cheap pashmina sold as tourist souvenirs, so be cautious of unusually low prices.
Saffron is sold by weight, and genuine Kashmiri saffron has a distinct aroma and a slightly bitter taste, not sweet. Buying from a known shop rather than a street stall reduces the risk of adulterated product. Dry fruits, particularly walnuts and almonds, are good value and easy to pack.
Papier-mâché items and hand-carved walnut wood furniture or small boxes make good gifts, though larger furniture pieces involve shipping costs worth asking about before committing. Prices are almost always negotiable, and visiting two or three shops before buying gives you a real sense of fair pricing rather than the first number quoted.
Airtel and Jio counters are available right at Srinagar airport arrivals, and we'd recommend picking one up there rather than waiting until you're in the city. You'll need your passport, e-Visa copy, and a passport photo to register. Coverage is good in Srinagar and Gulmarg, moderate in Pahalgam and Sonamarg, and limited in the more remote valleys like Doodhpathri and Gurez, so download offline maps before you head out for the day.
All the hotels and houseboats we work with provide WiFi as standard. It's generally reliable in Srinagar, a bit more variable on houseboats depending on the lake's signal strength that day.
India's currency is the Indian Rupee. You'll need cash for local markets, Dal Lake vendors, and smaller shops, since card acceptance outside hotels and larger stores is inconsistent. Exchanging Malaysian Ringgit before you leave generally gets a better rate than exchanging on arrival at Srinagar airport. ATMs are available in Srinagar's city centre around Lal Chowk, with major Indian banks represented.
Airport transfers are included in all our packages, with a private vehicle meeting you at arrivals. Within Kashmir, we use AC Innovas or Tempo Travelers depending on group size, with SUVs for routes involving rougher terrain. Driving times between destinations range from about 1.5 hours, Srinagar to Gulmarg, to 3 hours, Srinagar to Pahalgam, and these times can extend significantly during heavy rain or after snowfall.
Road conditions are generally good on the main tourist routes, though the roads to Aru Valley and parts of Doodhpathri are narrower and bumpier, which matters if you're travelling with elderly family members or anyone prone to motion sickness. We mention this upfront rather than after you're already on the road.

Kashmir is, in our day-to-day experience operating tours here, a safe destination for international tourists, including Malaysian families and solo travellers. That said, it's worth being realistic rather than dismissive about a few practical points.
In April 2025, a terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 people, mostly tourists, and it understandably shook confidence in travel to the region for a period afterward. A year on, security presence around major tourist sites has been visibly increased, and tourism has been steadily recovering. International tour leader Mohammad Fadli, who brought a group of 21 Malaysian travellers to Pahalgam around the anniversary in April 2026, told reporters his group felt safe and very peaceful throughout their visit. We share that not as a guarantee, but as one honest, recent data point from a fellow Malaysian group that actually went.
It's worth knowing that the gondola was closed for about a month in 2026, from May 25 until June 25, after a technical fault left tourists stranded mid-air and triggered a multi-agency rescue. The cable car corporation replaced the gearbox, ran trial operations, and only resumed service once the manufacturer certified the repairs. It's been operating normally since late June 2026, but it's a fair example of why we always check current operational status before building a day around it, rather than assuming a major attraction is guaranteed to be running.
Road safety in the mountains depends heavily on weather. We avoid driving certain routes after heavy snowfall or landslide warnings, and we'd rather delay a day's plan than push through a road that's genuinely risky. Altitude can affect some travellers mildly at Gulmarg and Sonamarg's elevations, mostly as light breathlessness, and staying hydrated helps.
We strongly recommend travel insurance covering medical evacuation, given the mountain terrain involved in some excursions. Always check current government travel advisories from your own country before booking, since these are updated more frequently than any tour operator's website. We're glad to discuss specific safety questions directly if you have concerns about particular dates or regions, including the current security situation in specific areas.
Children generally do well in Kashmir, particularly with the novelty of snow in winter and Shikara rides at any time of year. Pace matters more than itinerary content for families, so we deliberately build in slower mornings and avoid back-to-back long drive days when a family books with us.
Elderly travellers should be aware that some destinations, particularly Aru Valley and parts of Doodhpathri, involve rougher roads or short walks over uneven ground. We can adjust the itinerary to skip these specific stops without losing the rest of the trip's value. Multi-generation families benefit most from our 7N/8D Family Plus package specifically because of the extra day's buffer, which absorbs the inevitable slower pace of a larger, mixed-age group without compressing the schedule.
A luxury houseboat stay on Dal Lake is, in our experience, the single most memorable part of a Kashmir honeymoon for most couples, more than any single sightseeing stop. Private Shikara rides at sunset, away from the busier daytime jetties, are easy to arrange and consistently popular.
Spring and autumn tend to suit honeymoon couples best, spring for the gardens and mild weather, autumn for quieter crowds and golden chinar trees. Photography-wise, Betaab Valley in Pahalgam and the gondola viewpoint at Gulmarg's Phase 2 are the two spots couples ask for most often.

Aqib from Kashmir Tour Provider is a very nice tour guide. He explains everything clearly and communicates in English very well. He was extremely patient throughout the journey, and his recommendations and advice made our trip even more enjoyable. Every place we visited was well planned and hassle-free. I highly recommend Aqib and the entire team for anyone planning a trip to Kashmir.
We are a group from Malaysia, and we booked our Kashmir tour directly from the Kashmir Tour Provider website. The team was very helpful right from the beginning and customized our package to include Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, and Kashmir. Everything was arranged so well that we didn't have to worry about a single thing during the whole trip.
The hotels were comfortable, the driver was friendly, and the local guides were very informative. The highlight of our trip was definitely the houseboat stay on Dal Lake, so peaceful and beautiful.
We truly appreciated the care and attention given by the Kashmir Tour Provider team. They stayed in touch throughout our journey and made sure everyone in our group was happy and comfortable.
Thank you for making our India and Kashmir trip so smooth and unforgettable. We'll surely recommend Kashmir Tour Provider to our friends and families in Malaysia!
The 7-day trip to Kashmir and Delhi (Agra) was truly an unforgettable experience. I had the opportunity to witness the breathtaking beauty of Srinagar's Dal Lake, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam—views so stunning that even my eyes felt insufficient to capture them. Kashmir has undoubtedly become one of my most favorite destinations.
A heartfelt thank you to Kashmir Tour Provider for their excellent arrangements throughout the journey. The accommodation, transportation, and friendly drivers made the entire trip smooth, comfortable, and well-organized.
In Agra, our guide was patient, knowledgeable, and provided detailed insights into the rich history of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, which greatly enhanced our experience.
Overall, it was a beautifully planned trip, and I truly appreciate the professionalism and care shown at every step.
We recently booked our Kashmir trip with Shaan and his team, and it turned out to be the best trip ever! Everything was perfectly organized from airport pickup to hotel stays and daily sightseeing. Our driver, Sajad, was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and always on time.
The Shikara Ride on Dal Lake and the Gondola Ride in Gulmarg were truly unforgettable experiences. The team ensured we had smooth bookings and zero hassles throughout the journey.
Shaan and his staff are very professional and genuinely care about customer satisfaction. Without a doubt, they provide the best services and are among the best tour operators in Kashmir. Highly recommended for anyone planning a memorable Kashmir vacation!
If you've read this far, you likely have a season and rough package in mind already. The next step is simple: tell us your travel dates, group size, and what matters most to you, whether that's snow, a honeymoon houseboat stay, or a relaxed family pace, and we'll put together a specific plan with real pricing rather than a generic quote.
You can reach our Srinagar office directly through WhatsApp or email, and we'll respond with questions of our own where needed, since a good itinerary depends on understanding your actual priorities, not just filling a template. We're not going to pressure you into booking on the first call. Take the time you need, and come back to us once you're ready to talk specifics.
